The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music serves as a central location for residents of Musicians’ Village. The Center is available to residents for community meetings, cultural forums, family gatherings and celebrations. The Center also provides a space for musician residents to practice and rehearse.
Among the residents of the Musicians' Village are many elder statesmen and women of the New Orleans music community whose work has seldom been documented on recordings. Additionally, the wide range of musical genres played by Village residents (Classical, Jazz, Zydeco, Blues, R&B) has already given birth to unprecedented cross-genre collaborations. The Center features state-of-the-art audio and video recording facilities available for use on a sliding scale by Village residents and other members of the New Orleans music community. Recordings will include musical and spoken word performances and oral histories.
Our goal is to provide Village residents with a performance venue and to make available to Village residents quality concerts, plays and movies virtually at their door step. Performers on our stage will include national and international performers in genres including theatre, dance and music.
