Join us for an evening with Steve Masakowski and Friends on GiveNola Day!
Steve Masakowski has long been regarded as one of the top jazz artists and educators in the city of New Orleans. Born and raised in New Orleans, he grew up surrounded and influenced by the rich musical traditions of the city. Masakowski has been a fixture of the New Orleans jazz scene since the early 80's, performing regularly at clubs and festivals throughout the region. He gained national recognition for his work with the critically acclaimed modern jazz group, Astral Project, his collaborations with Ellis Marsalis and Rick Margitza which earned him a devoted following and multiple awards and nominations. In addition to his career as a performer, Steve began teaching at Loyola University as an adjunct professor but then became a full-time professor at the University of New Orleans where he held the title of Coca-Cola Endowed Chair.
GiveNOLA Day, an initiative of the Greater New Orleans Foundation, is a one-day online giving event. The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music is a participant in this year's GiveNola Day with a goal of $10,000--and you can help us reach that goal by donating here. Giving begins at 12:01am on Tuesday, May 7, and lasts until midnight. Early giving begins on April 23.
