The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music delivers a broad range of services to underserved children, youth, adults, and musicians, many of whom are from neighborhoods battling poverty and social injustice.
Our programs leverage music as a catalyst for social change, offering a safe and supportive environment where the community can gather and young people can develop musically, academically, and socially.

Youth Registration
Enrollment Requirements
• New students must be 8 years old and no older than 18.
• All students must provide digital proof of COVID-19 vaccination via LA Wallet.
• Priority is given to students living in the Musicians’ Village and the surrounding Upper 9th Ward neighborhood, which includes the following zip codes: 70117, 70126, 70127, 70128, 70129, 70032, and 70122. Students living outside those areas may contact the office to determine eligibility.
• Prior musical experience is not required for new students.
• Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis based upon full payment of fees.
• Registration fees are not refundable.
• Students must provide proof of vaccination.
Registration Process
• Register online via the electronic form below or download a PDF form via the button below. For questions about the registration process, contact esmith@ellismarsaliscenter.org.
• Fill out one form per student. Once you submit the form, you will receive an invoice for the $30 registration fee (and a $1.50 processing fee) which will allow you to pay online. The registration fee is nonrefundable. We accept credit or debit cards only. EMCM does not accept checks. Registration is not complete until forms and funds are collected. • If the classes are full for the session, please consider joining our waiting list. To be added to the waiting list, please email your child’s full name, address, phone number, email address, and the class you are interested in to esmith@ellismarsaliscenter.org.
ADULT Registration
Enrollment Requirements
• Adult piano students must be over the age of 19.
• All students must provide digital proof of Covid-19 vaccination via LA Wallet.
• Priority is given to students living in the Musician’s Village and the surrounding Upper 9th Ward
neighborhood which includes the following zip codes: 70117, 70126, 70127, 70128, 70129, 70032, and 70122. Students living outside those areas may contact the office to determine eligibility.
• Prior musical experience is NOT required for new students.
• Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis based upon full payment of fees.
• Registration fees are not refundable.
• Students must provide proof of vaccination or exemption letter from the DOH.
Registration Process
• Fill out one form per student and submit the $32.00 registration fee via credit card over the phone. ($10 for the first month + $22 for the piano book). The registration fee is nonrefundable. We accept credit or debit cards only. There is a $1.25 processing fee for credit cards. EMCM does not accepts checks.
• The registration fee for the first month is $10 plus $22 for the piano book. Students will be charged $10 per month thereafter.
• Registration is not complete until forms and funds are collected.
Deadlines & Schedule
• Last Day of Spring Classes: May 4, 2024
• First Day of Summer Classes: May 28, 2024
• Fall Registration Begins – July 1
• Summer Recital (10:00 am) and Last Day of Classes – July 3
First Day of Fall Classes – August 19
EMCM observes the following holidays and will not hold class:
• Juneteenth – June 19
• Independence Day – July 4
• Labor Day – September 2
Summer Session Hours
Summer classes begin at 8:30 am sharp and end at 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
There are no Saturday classes during the summer.
